Maple Tattoo Supply stocks the complete range of professional tattoo supplies in Canada — stencil products (Stencil Stuff, Spirit transfer paper, Anchored), cartridge grips, barrier film, ink caps, nitrile gloves, practice skins, derm aftercare bandages, green soap, and more — shipped fast from our Toronto warehouse, priced in CAD with no surprise fees at the border.
The professional method is straightforward: clean and shave the area, apply a thin even layer of stencil solution (Stencil Stuff or Anchored), then lay your thermal-printed transfer paper (Spirit is the studio standard) ink-side down on the prepped skin. Press evenly without shifting it for 30–60 seconds, then peel slowly. Let the stencil dry completely before you start tattooing — rushing this step is the most common cause of a stencil that lifts mid-session.
Professional stencils are made by printing or hand-tracing a design onto thermal transfer paper (Spirit is the industry standard). A thermal copier or stencil printer creates a transferable image from your artwork, which then transfers to skin using stencil solution. Skipping these tools and using regular paper or marker is not a professional method — the line won't hold during the session.
If you need to remove a stencil before tattooing — for example to reposition — wipe the area with green soap on a paper towel or use an alcohol wipe, then re-prep the skin and reapply. For stencils that need to come off after a session is finished, gentle soap and water is usually enough; the stencil naturally fades over a few hours as skin oils and sweat break it down.
A working setup needs: a tattoo machine and power supply, cartridges or needles, ink, ink caps, a stencil product and thermal transfer paper, barrier film and clip-cord sleeves, nitrile gloves, green soap, paper towel, and a sharps container for disposal. Apprentices typically add silicone practice skins. You can build this piece by piece or grab the consumables together when you stock up.
